Precious is the Peace of the Silent Drummer

Loud drumbeaters' bluster
     makes heartbeats flutter:
Reversal of course
    means surrendering our force!

No surrender! No defeat!
    No appeasement!    Drumbeat.

But volatile verbiage
    can't erase war's sulliage.
Nor can "time of war" fantasy
    clarify battles' bent reality.

Like a tranquil night in the midst of summer:
Precious is the peace of the silent drummer.

  1. This is so concise. Every part works for the whole -- and your use of rhyme is fantastic. Nice job.

  2. Another completely different way of using these jigsaw words... just fascinating how many directions people have taken them in, and yet, as you do here, made them fit so smoothly into your poem. The silent drummer is a very powerful idea.

  3. The silent drummer image really is one that makes the reader stop and catch their breath. Its a powerful, somber image. Very bold way to use these words. Bravo on making them your own.
