The Devil in Pastor Jones


No white dove flew from gator land:
a preacher burned gas-soaked Qur'an —
some verses born in desert sand —
and lit aflame Afghanistan.

Kill devils fly when myths collide
and people called to take a side.
With ease these devils seem to glide
between a man-made writ divide.

    This is a lovely piece of writing, Philip. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword but so many 'media' types seem to have forgotten how to write, or maybe they're just too afraid of losing their jobs. They will report on, dissect, analyse but generally stay right there on the fence. Reasoned opinion is becoming scarce.
