Summer nuts

This summer heats people
like nuts in an oven—
cashew and almond,
peanut and pecan.

The nut-fruits are roasting
on pans of concrete,
asphalt, and red brick
convecting the heat.

Then just like when nuts
are sufficiently jouled,
they're set to return
to a room air-cooled.

  1. Sitting on the wintery side of the planet, a few summer nuts would go down quite well right now.
Love the form and rhyme of this poem.

  2. How accurately you've captured summer life in the hotter climes. And the simile is perfect on so many levels!

  3. An apt description - I am feeling "sufficiently jouled" in the summer heat wave that seems to have engulfed my part of the world. And what a wonderful phrase to describe what it is doing to me :)

Nicely observed. I like it! :-)

  6. I feel like I'm roasting with the heat & humidity. Can't wait for my favorite season (autumn) to put summer to sleep. ;-)

    Lovely imagery!

I love the imagery of even just the notion of summer!!
Simply a 'wash-out' here in the UK.
