Feebly, we leave our Terran home
Feebly, we leave our Terran home
controlled by space-time's laws
in fragile boats that buck the waves
of nature's callous cause.
Small islands that are close to home
are far as we can see
to go — for now we are but slaves
of Relativity.
The day may come when we need roam
beyond our nearby shores,
when Earth becomes but our own graves
and nature shuts the doors.

These is something special, Philip. Your form is a strong framework for an esoteric view of man's place in the universe.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking your piece to Real Toads.

ReplyDeleteOo, powerful words. Well done, succinctly says it all.
ReplyDeleteI was reading (and enjoying) this when a sudden blinding flash of inspiration sent me hurrying off to Word, to write my own. On finishing a rough first draft I closed the document and was surprised to find your poem lurking behind it on the screen. Felicitations - not only inspired, but inspiring!
